[Question #9477] Questions I can’t ask

Hi team,
Sorry to lean on you. I just feel like you guys can help me massively with this.
Me and my wife are trying for a baby, but unfortunately it’s not happening I have become more and more convinced about it been my fault.
Here is why. About a year ago I had oral sex outside of my relationship with another male. A couple of days after this (after having sex with my wife) I got extremely frequent urinantion issues and full bladder sensation. I wasted no time going to the doctors who did a dip test of my urine he was happy it was all clear. He gave me some antibiotics just to clear up anything but said should be ok. I panicked and 5 days after and tested for Chlamydia and Gonno which was negative (perhaps because of the antibiotics)
I have been testing monthly since to see if anything comes up out of paranoia that I have got something and gave it my wife as such she can’t conceive.
So now we have been going for appointment at the doctor and they have done examinations on my wife. They have checked her belly for tenderness and she has had a HSG test which appears to be clear. Before this they did a “three swab vaginal test” they didn’t real explain what this was for.
So I’m wondering if I can finally put all this behind me was the three swab a sti test I really wanted to ask but didn’t know how without suspicion. If it’s not an sti test what is it?
It would be nice if so. If you can give any insight into my situation that would be helpful.

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment and hope that my responses will be reassuring to you.
Your chances of having been infected by receipt of oral sex a year are low. Most people do not have oral STIs and most single exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection. In addition, the symptoms you report are not suggestive of STI (they are however suggestive of anxiety). Further, in the unlikely circumstance that you were infected, your antibiotics would have cure it.
I am not familiar with "the 3 swab test" but it may have been testing for several STIs. I would ask. If your wife is being evaluated for infertility, it would be unusual for her not to have been tested for STIs.
Finally, it is time for you to stop testing for STIs. If you had an STI, one of your earlier tests would have been positive. Further, if your wife were infected, chances are that she would have infected you resulting in a positive test for you.
Bottom line- it is time for you to stop beating yourself up over an indiscretion occurring a year ago and to move forward. I encourage you to support your wife as she pursues her evaluation and not worry that the challenges of getting pregnant she is experiencing is due to your misstep. EWH

Thank you.
You really have put my mind at ease.
I do believe the 3 swab was to look for infections prior to the HSG they did mention the don’t do the test with a risk of infection as it can cause complications.
So it stands to reason in my mind a way that infections include sti but obviously without asking I can’t know for sure.
Either way your reasoning is sound and I’ll sleep a little better knowing this.
Thank you doctor
