[Question #9541] Oral Encounter Follow Up #9459

I have a follow up questions to my odd symptoms that showed up 22 days after my oral encounter. To date, my symptoms are very mild and may be because I am focused so much on my genital region due to anxiety and worry. I still have never had any discharge or pain during urination. I have had frequent urination and bladder pressure as well as some penile tip pain that sometimes occurs after urination. This has happened 10 years ago when I was stressed at work and the urologist never found any infection and prescribed be flomax. I have taken a few doses of flomax and that has helped my symptoms. Anyway, I went to the doctor 2.5 weeks ago (43 days after my oral encounter) because I had a sinus infection and was given a steroid shot and a z pack. I finished my meds 14 days ago and they really had no effect on my genital symptoms although it did cure my sinus infection.  Prior to taking the antibiotics, I had decided that gonorrhea would have showed obvious symptoms and chlamydia would be so unlikely that I shouldn’t worry. Further, I have talked with the couple a few times a week since the encounter and the male is having regular unprotected oral and vaginal sex with the female and has not showed any signs or symptoms of sti.  Since the zpack had no effect on my symptoms, would that be even more evidence that my symptoms are not sti related?  I did take 1 gram on day 1 followed by 250mg a day for the next 2 days. I assume if it were an Sti, the antibiotics would have cured it and my odd symptoms would have subsided, but I wanted to get an expert option on that rationale.

Welcome back to the Forum. Thanks for your questions.  The additional information you provide for the period since your solitary oral exposure makes the likelihood that you acquired gonorrhea (or any other STI) from your exposure virtually zero.  The symptoms of STIs are not intermittent as yours are and Flomax would not be expected to relive gonorrhea symptoms.  Further, the fact that the Z-pak you took had no effect on your symptoms makes it still more unlikely that you were not infected.

As I said before, you can and should be confident that your casual exposure has not resulted in an STI.  Do your best not to worry.  EWH

Thanks Dr.  Would the z-pack I took have been effective in relieving symptoms if it were an sti?  I took 1.5 grams over 3 days and saw no change at all.

The question has been answered above and repeating the question will not change the answer.  Yes, if the symptoms you were experiencing were due to an STI it is quite likely it would have improved your symptoms.  As I have said repeatedly, you really need to give up on the idea that you acquired an STI from the causal encounter you described.  EWH---

Thanks Doctor. I’m convinced it is probably CPPS that came about from worry, shame, and anxiety. I just wish the symptoms would subside.

You may well be right.  That being the case, seeking confidential counseling to discuss methods to address your shame and anxiety may be helpful.  The nature of your symptoms may reflect that you are looking for them and focusing on normal sensations but your anxiety is amplifying them.

This completes the thread.  I wish you the best.  EWH
