[Question #9571] General Question

I have been in a relationship for over 12 years and have been 100% faithful. She and I both were tested for STDs before getting intimate and they were negative. I noticed a few months back a "zit" on my scrotum which concerned me and had my physician do both an IgG test...and a Western Blot blood test from the Univ. of Washington...both negative. My question is I have experienced scrotum tingling for years with no obvious leisions. Am I safe to have sex going forward based on the negative tests? Are there better tests available to confirm I am safe?

A "zit " on your scrotum could be anything, really, but I doubt that it was herpes if you had a negative western blot and negative IgG test. The tingling scrotum alone just doesn't fit with herpes in spite of negative antibody tests. I think you are certainly OK to go back to sexual contact in light of these tests. There are no better herpes tests than the western blot.

Going to an extreme on this topic, are there antiviral topical cremes that reduce or eliminate viral shedding before sex?

No, there aren't, I'm afraid. Don't we wish!
