[Question #9574] hsv2 possible risk

i am a male. on aug 27th i had protected sex and recieved unprotected oral sex from a woman. on sept. 14th (18 days after our encounter) she began to have symptoms and on sept 19th she swab tested positive for hsv2. between our encounter and her symptoms she was with "multiple" partners. i dont know this woman well but the fact that she reached out to me makes me feel like what she tells me is believeable. i have not had any hsv2 syptoms. i thought in the days following her telling me her diagnoses i had itching or tingling, but im pretty sure it was all in my head now. the rest i think a timeline would make the most sense of it.
Aug. 18 her last known partner before me
Aug. 27 her and i have protected sex
Sept. 14 her symptoms begin
Sept. 19 she swab tests positive for hsv2
Sept. 20 i test for hsv2 .28 NEG 4 weeks
Oct. 6 i test .28 NEG 6 weeks
Oct. 13 i test .27 NEG 7 weeks
Oct. 21 i test NEG 8 weeks (no number value. i started going to my Primary. must be a different test)
Dec. 27 i test NEG 17.5 weeks
I will add that her outbreak was pretty severe. she also had a positive antibody test for hsv2 90 days after her positive swab test. my doctor said that all things considered and my negative test 4 months after that i can be certain i do not have hsv2. i asked about a western blot test and was told its not neccessary, that the antibody test i had is comparable in accuracy. questions
1. considering her last partner before me was aug. 18 and her outbreak was about a month later, wouldnt it be unusual for her to have contracted herpes from someone before she was with me?
2. what would you say is my overall risk?
3. would you agree with my doctor that i can be certain i do not have hsv2? thank you so much

I would say given all of what you've written here she did NOT acquire HSV 2 from you. Also condoms reduce transmission by 96% from males to females when used with every intercourse.
2. what would you say is my overall risk?
You can believe the results with 92% certainty that you don't have HSV 2.
3. would you agree with my doctor that i can be certain i do not have hsv2? thank you so much
See above. I suspect strongly that she acquired HSV 2 from a partner she had after you, before the outbreak she experienced.

thanks for the reply. i also want to add that when her sores were swab tested positive on sept. 19, her hsv2 antibody was negative at that time. then 3 months later her antibody was positive. does this hint at an initial infection? do you see any reason for me to be tested again (most recent test at 17.5 weeks)? based on everything is this something that i should disclose to a future partner? thanks

Yes, this indicates a new infection. More evidence this wasn't from you. I see no need to test again nor should you feel the need to disclose all of this to any future partners.

thank you for the reassurance. i was certain she did not contract hsv2 from me. given the timeline i was more concerned with the possibility that i contracted hsv2 from her. just to wrap it up.................. given that she most likely had an initial infection, last partner before me was 10 days, and then her outbreak was 18 days after me. i have 17.5 week negative test. can i be confident i am not infected? do you recommend i move on? thank you so much for your time. take care.

The IgG test picks up 92% of HSV 2 infections compared to the western blot, so that's very good. I suspect that she was infected about 5-7 days prior to her outbreak so that's well after your contact with her.
