Hello doctors, sorry to ask again related to previous question.

Aprox. 9-10 days after exposure, my body feels very tired lately, i also have some muscle pain in my back area and shoulders. I have a massive headache for several days, i got chills at night for the past 2 days, and last night i might have fever about 37.5-38.  However, i might strongly believe that the symptoms are related more to dehydration as heatwave occured for several days in my home country and i drank less water than usual. The headache itself is more to tension type headache. Last night, i drank a lot of water and 1 paracetamol, i feel that my fever is better at that time.

1. Are my symptoms related to HIV exposure as well? Or it might be from my paranoia and the symptoms occured because of dehydration?

2. Does HIV symptoms occur in the same time or it can be occured in different period of time?

3. When does the symptoms of HIV starts to occur after exposure?

Thanks doctor

Welcome back to the forum. I’ll address your questions directly:

1.  The symptoms of recently acquired HIV, include high, fever, severe sore throat, and severe muscle or joint aches. The symptoms of recently acquired HIV or non-specific, and can also be midnight by influenza,  COVID-19, or a wide variety of community acquired Non-STI viral infections. If your symptoms resolved after drinking water, it is unlikely that the symptoms were due to HIV. If your symptoms were due to HIV, however, a fourth generation combination, HIV, antigen/antibody test would be positive at this time.

2.  When persons develop symptoms from recently acquired HIV, the symptoms typically occur at about the same time.

3.  Most commonly the symptoms of recently acquired HIV occur between 7 and 21 days and do not occur after more than a month.

I hope this information is helpful. Once again, I emphasize that the encounter you described was very low risk. I doubt that your symptoms were related to that. EW H.

Thanks for the reply doctor. I want to update about my symptoms per today :

- sore throat : red, but no problem swallowing, a bit dry and itch
- muscle pain : better after chiropractic and lot of water, still happen but very little area
- no diarrhea but feces not as solid as usual
- no fever after a nap today. Yesterday and wed a low grade fever (37.5c) from 5pm-9pm after work
- headache better after muscle medicine for relaxation of tense muscle, but still occur regularly.

From the update and symptoms, is there any red flags should i observe more for the red flag of hiv?

The symptoms of recently acquired HIV are typically quite severe.  The temperature is far higher than what you report.  No red flags for me here.  EWH---
