[Question #9694] What is the risk of passing hsv2 from cuddling?

I wanna cuddle guys (I am gay male) naked. I have HSV-2 but have never had an outbreak. I was diagnosed with a high IGG for a routine test. I would also like to know the risk if I am wearing a condom vs not wearing a condom. From what I understand, shedding only sheds from thin skin excluding if you are having an outbreak which in my case would be the head and shaft of the penis and the Anus right? So, if we are cuddling with me wearing a condom the risk would basically be 0 right? I greatly appreciate you has a service btw, thank you for being so well informed. Also wondering what transmission rates of anal are with a condom... But if that needs to be a separate question I can accept that. Thanks!

Shedding occurs from the penis and the anus in men.  I don't think cuddling without an outbreak is a risk as the "right kind " of contact for transmission of HSV is simply not occurring.  We don't have the exact risk of anal sex, with you on top, without or without a condom, but we do know the male to female transmission of HSV 2 while the infected partner is wearing a condom is reduce by 96% by the condom.  HUGE.

So herpes can't be spread by naked cuddling? Even with genital to genital contact? At what point does transmission become a concern? Rubbing action? Is the only relevant way to spread HSV-2 for a gay man anal as handjobs, and oral aren't really risks right? From what I understand HSV-2 oral is only really a concern if the person is immuno compromised. I have talked to local Drs in my area as well as the internet and they all say cuddling is a risk. I kinda trust you more than the internet though but could you elaborate and maybe share your sources or how you know this? Also I am a bottom. The thin skin of the anus though is pretty isolated, would it be fair to say a condom provides more protection in anal then vaginal for the receiving party?

well, cuddling and genital to genital contact are different in my opinion.  Rubbing genitals is a possible method of transmission.  Handjobs are not a risk and if someone has genital HSV 2, giving oral sex is not a risk for transmitting that - oral HSV 1 can be transmitted by giving oral sex.  Oral HSV 2 is very rare, correct.
I think condoms likely protect the anal canal and vagina at roughly the same rate.
The skin must be very thin or mucous membrane for virus to enter the body - it cannot get through thick skin without a break in the skin.  That's why I think that simple cuddling is not a risk UNTIL it becomes genital to genital rubbing.

So, what would the transmission risk be with genital rubbing with the infected party is wearing a condom? Also if both parties wearing a condom? Cause testicle skin is too thick right? So in my mind the risk would be really low compared to sex Right?

If the infected person is wearing a condom and there is only genital to genital rubbing, I would say that risk is very close to zero.  Testicle skin is quite thick and if intact, transmission is very unlikely
The risk is very low compared to penetrative intercourse, correct.
