[Question #9710] Chances of HIV infection.

I may sound ridiculous but I am in too much worry.
I recently visited a nail salon twice and at different location. Both the times I got cut while doing manicure and pedicure. First time, the cut was due to the cuticle cutter and second time it was due to electric nail drill.
I am sure the salon didn’t disinfect the tools because it was lying as it is. I myself is a scientist so I know how hiv is transmitted but still worried. If there was a blood on the cuticle cutter and the electric nail drill (unsterilised), what are the chances of getting hiv. I reside in Melbourne, Australia.
Do I need testing ?
Thank you

Welcome to our forum. Thanks for your question. You are not alone and your concerns about cuts and scrapes which occur in the course of receiving a manicure or pedicure. This question has that been ask several times in the past.
There are no recorded or proven instances in which someone has acquired HIV from cuts sustained during manicures and pedicures. I’m sorry to hear that the instruments used in the salon you visited were not cleaned between uses (are you sure?) but, even so this was a no risk event. The instruments are not hollow, and thus, even if they had traumatized the client before you, because the instruments are solid, and thus, unlike hollow needles, would not be carrying blood forward. Secondly, the likelihood that the person before you had HIV was is extraordinarily low. Third and finally, HIV becomes non-infectious almost immediately upon exposure to the environment.
In summary, as I said, in my earlier comments, I would not be the least bit concerned about this event. I see no reason for concern and no reason for testing.
I hope the information I provided is helpful to you. EWH.

Thank you
So without even 0.00001% fear, can I be intimate with my partner ? Without the fear of catching the virus ?
