[Question #9727] Follow up HSV Question

Hi Ms. Warren, I just had a follow-up question going off of my most recent post. I have pretty debilitating OCD that definitely extends to STD fears (I am working on cognitive behavioral therapy with my therapist), that has led to a number of questions on this forum over the years.
As stated in my last question, a few days ago I tested negative for HSV 1/2 via type-specific Igg test. The encounter I am worried about was in November 2021.
My question:
1) As stated in previous posts, there have been a couple times in the past that I have noticed cuts/wounds/sores under my foreskin. In a previous response to this query, you told me "oh, certainly! Men who still have a foreskin can often get breaks in the skin. These could be caused by a fungal condition (most often) and even bacteria."
I understand that igg misses 8% of hsv2 and 30% of hsv1. Considering the fact that my big fear is hsv2, do you think it is alright for me to move past this herpes worry, considering my recent negative igg result?
If I am able to continue working through my symptom-related OCD with my therapist, do you think it is alright to move forward without further testing? I totally understand that this is an OCD-laden question, so I apologize for that. Thank you for your time!

I'm unclear about why you don't just do the herpes western blot and get a clear answer about your HSV 1 and 2 status?  If there is a way to know your true status, don't you want to do it?  is it a matter of funds?  Let me know.

Terri

Price is a big one for sure. Also, what would the timeline look like i.e. ordering test, doing it, getting results back?

With HSV2 being my concern, is the western blot warranted or can I accept the igg?

you can certainly accept the IgG results if you can accept the 92% certainty, sure!  Many people accept these results without any problem.  Sometimes, people who have health anxiety or OCD want some extra accuracy, that's all.
If you ordered the blot, it takes 1-2 weeks to get results back.

Thanks for your prompt follow up!
Last two questions:
1) Is it 1-2 weeks including receiving the test, completing it, and sending it back?
2) I would like to accept these results and move, and I do believe I can w/out the western blot. I guess I just wanted to know if you, as a std expert, and knowing my testing/symptoms background, believe that is a reasonable thing for me to do?  (considering I will continue working through the mental side with my therapist)

well, first you need to order the kit from the University of Washington.  you'll need a clinician to sign the lab requisition - you can work with me at westoverheights.com or certainly with your own clinician

I think it is a reasonable thing to do, yes.

To clarify, the 2nd question in my last post should have said "without" the western blot.

I understood that.  I think that is a reasonable thing to do.
