[Question #9731] Herpes index value

25 weeks ago I had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman. I just tested with a full panel std. My hsv1 index range came back at 80.400 I had a cold sore about a month before the test. My concern is that my hsv2 index range came back at 0.068 which according to the lab report was in range/negative. Is it possible for the hsv1 result to bleed into the hsv2 index range? Prior to these test I've had other herpes test but they all came back < 0 .10 for hsv2. Are my test conclusive or it possible that my hsv2 index range is increasing because I'm seroconverting? It's been like I said 25 weeks since my last exposure.

My math might be off but I believe that 0.068 is a lower value than 0.1 - isn't that correct?  Your HSV 2 index value is not increasing.  These are both solid negatives!

Math is really not my strong point lol. Is there a reason why my index values came back with a specific number rather than >5.0 for hsv1 and <0.10 for hsv2 like they usually come back? Does having a cold sore increase your hsv1 values? Do hsv1 index scores cross react with hsv2 index scores?

Different labs report things out differently, that's all
Having a history of cold sores makes your HSV 1 positive.  Having an active cold sore probably doesn't impact the number on the test
Sometimes, HSV 1 antibodies cross react with HSV 2 antibodies, that is correct.  not in your case, however.

Sorry for insisting but this is the lab I've been using for all my other tests. Not a new lab. So that's why I found it odd that they returned with a specific value. Are my tests reliable at 25 weeks?

well, then I don't know why the reporting looked different.  perhaps a call to the lab would help you clarify this?
Testing at 25 weeks out should be more than enough time for an accurate result.
