[Question #977] Herpes transmission

I am having a herpes outbreak on my nose . It is covered in a layer of make up . I picked up my six-year-old son today as he was sick and accidentally his cheek brushed against my nose . The make up still seems intact and he doesn't have any cuts or wounds on his face . Do you think he will contract it on his cheek? He already has it in his lip. How long should I worry? Thank you!

I certainly do not! However, now that he has it on his lip, it is also possible that he could have outbreaks on his nose, not because you infected him there or he transferred it to his nose but because the same group of nerves that supplies the lip also supplies the nose so the virus could travel along a slightly different nerve to get to the surface of the skin and break out in or on his nose.

Thanks! So you think I can stop worrying now about today's occurrence resulting in an outbreak on a different part of his face ? I understand he might get it on other parts of his face because he already has it . But I can stop worrying about me giving it to him today in a new area correct ? Thank you!!

Yes, I totally and completely believe that you can stop worrying about today's incident - take it off your plate and out of your mind.
