Hello doctors please help me sorry my English not best
1)  had blood draw from vein butterfly needle with a blood collection tube (vaccum tube )
MY  RISK is the nurse re used the vacutainer holder on me from previous patient if they’re was any wet blood or body fluid anywhere on or in the vacutainer holder I am not risk for hiv hepatitis b  hepatitis c or stds  or other blood borne infections during blood draw
what is vacutainer holder ? : the vacuatiner holder is a plastic piece will provide links below

Link 1 is i think vacutainer holder used on me
as you know butterfly needle or multi sample needle comes with two needles attached my concern is the needle that fits into the vacutainer holder which  is covered with  RUBBER ?  or the blood collection tube came in contact with wet blood or body fluid in vacutainer holder during  blood draw   when the needle was inserted already in my vein

1b) TO answer question 1 above   doctor hunter I have read  until and and unless the NEEDLE or syringe is not re used from previous patient there are no other ways person can get  hiv hepatitis c  hepatitis b or stds or any other blood borne infections
So i cannot get infected with hiv hepatits c or other blood borne  infections from a vacutainer holder which is re used  and it’s not a needle or syringe .

2)nurse  is  LEGALLY ALLOWED to re use ALL TYPES of vacutainer HOLDER   from previous patient and can be used on ANY TYPE of needles on many patients repeatedly
and it’s not a risk for hiv hepatitis c  all for blood draw meaning no cleaning is needed if wet blood  or body fluid was in  or on the vacutainer  holder  it’s COMMON to do this so I cannot get infected with these viruses  ?

2b)  is true to re use blood culture vacutainer holders they are just bigger in size  ? Although I did NOT have a blood culture blood draw today
In link 3 below

3)  want to inform you that in my country butterfly needles or the double pointed needle used for blood draw don’t have safety devices that prevent re use
But that doesn’t matter because because they all have   the same rubber covered  needles that fit into the vacutainer holders right ?

3a) ON MEDHELP i read know vacutainer holder are re used  all the TIME no risk for any virus but can you explain why?  on google( internet it said single use only ) ?

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  Thanks as well for looking at previous questions regarding the safety of blood drawing.  I'm very familiar with vacutainers and the vacutainer holders used for blood draws and am happy to assure you that while the holders that hold the needles that puncture the vacutainer tubes are designed so that they can be reused, the needles are not.  When the needles are used to puncture the vacutainer tubes the rubber covering pulls away and does not carry anything which might remain in the holder from a previous use.  These holders and needles of this sort have benn used millions and millions of times and have not transmitted HIV or hepatitis of any sort from one person to another.  You can have complete confidence that the holder and needles used to draw your blood were safe.

I'm also pleased to hear that your tests were negative.  I encourage you to move forward with confidence.  Your blood draw did not put you at risk for infection.  EWH

Thank you for the reply however for clarity I was hoping you would have addressed each point so that I would be clear

1)THERE ARE NO SINGLE USE VACUTAINER HOLDER they are all the same ?   Google(internet  did scare me by saying single use) so one vacutainer holder is used on many patients over and over again using any type of needles

1b) Note : I don’t have safety needles butterfly needle or multi sample that prevent re use as you do in the usa

but that doesn’t matter as rubber needle that fits into the vacutainer holder is the same word wide ?

2) to be clear when we said vacuatiner holder is reused I meant  even if WET OR DRY blood or body fluid was inside or any where in vacutainer holder from previous patient it’s not a risk for hiv hepatitis b or hepatitis c or stds or any other blood borne infections
And I cannot get infected from these viruses  as nurse is ALLOWED  to re use vacutainer holder

2b) re use means that  ONE vacutainer  holder is used OVER and OVER again on different patients
nurse  will show me an already used vacutainer holder from previous patient and NO CLEANING OF of the vacutainer holder  is needed and there will be no packaging of the vacutainer holder
Nurse will just simply re use the vacutainer holder  on me for my blood draw by attaching the needle into the holder and start blood  draw by instering needle into my vein  ?

3) when I said all types of vacutainer holders are re used on on different patients this includes blood culture vacutainer    holders as well they are just bigger in size
Although I did NOT have a blood culture blood draw

4) THE reason all types of vacutainer holders  are  re used  on different patients is because double pointed needle that comes with the butterfly needle or multi sample needle
Has RUBBER ON IT  and so does the blood collection tubes (vacutainer)
So any blood that touches in or on the vacutainer holder won’t
Go in the needle or the blood collection tube

Can YOU explain further please doctor  ?

5)the rubber needle that goes into the vacutainer holder is called luer adapter needle ?

6) PLEASE CONFIRM this is vacutainer holder we are talking about
link 1 is this vacutainer holder  small size was used ON ME

this may not be the one I had but it’s only to give you an IDEA  this small size was used on me

Link  2 is blood culture vacutainer holder  ( was not used on me )

Link 3 is different vacutainer holder used on multi sample needle

NOTE :,This only to give you an idea they may different kinds but all vacutainer holders allowed to be reused right ?

I apologize for the multiple posts I have one FOLLOW UP left please respond to EACH POINT and do the see links

This is your final follow-up.  These are largely repetitive questions.  Brief answers will follow:

1)THERE ARE NO SINGLE USE VACUTAINER HOLDER they are all the same ?   Google(internet  did scare me by saying single use) so one vacutainer holder is used on many patients over and over again using any type of needles

Correct, the vacutainer holders are reusable, the needles are NOT.

1b) Note : I don’t have safety needles butterfly needle or multi sample that prevent re use as you do in the usa
Understood.  Still no risk

but that doesn’t matter as rubber needle that fits into the vacutainer holder is the same word wide ?
Correct

2) to be clear when we said vacuatiner holder is reused I meant  even if WET OR DRY blood or body fluid was inside or any where in vacutainer holder from previous patient it’s not a risk for hiv hepatitis b or hepatitis c or stds or any other blood borne infections
And I cannot get infected from these viruses  as nurse is ALLOWED  to re use vacutainer holder
Repetitive. The answer will not change.  Nurses are allow and expected to reuse vacutainer holders.

More repetition.  Correct

3) when I said all types of vacutainer holders are re used on on different patients this includes blood culture vacutainer    holders as well they are just bigger in size
Although I did NOT have a blood culture blood draw
Understood.  The answer is NOT going to change.

Correct, the rubber prevents contact with blood

Can YOU explain further please doctor  ?
See above.  The rubber, which stays outside of the vacutainer tube prevents contact with blood or material remaining inside the holder.  These tubes have been used without causing infection in tens of millions of persons without causing infection.

5)the rubber needle that goes into the vacutainer holder is called luer adapter needle ?
Yes

6) PLEASE CONFIRM this is vacutainer holder we are talking about
link 1 is this vacutainer holder  small size was used ON ME
Confirmed.

This entirely repetitive series of follow-up questions is now complete and the thread will be closed.  Please do not return to the Forum with further questions on this topic. If you do, your question may be deleted without a reply and return of your payment.  You need to put your unnecessary concerns behind you.  EWH

Thank you I have one follow up left

1) even though we don’t have safety needles that prevent re use it still doesn’t matter

As the luer adapter needle(rubber needle) is the same world wide

We just have normal butterfly needles

2) I wanted to ask ITs also safe to keep the  vacutainer holder on the table

And nurse gloves also touch any area of the vacutainer holder right ?

Even if blood gets on  or in the vacutainer holder  when nurse will be assembling the needle ?

3 ) MOST important point re using of the vacutainer holder from previous patient is allowed during blood draw even if blood in it

Contaminate my sample will hiv hepatitis b or hepatitis c or any other test

Remain accurate and I can believe my tests ?

3b) And also it’s not a risk for hiv hepatitis b or c or any blood borne infections

I don’t NEED TO GET TESTED for these viruses as im not at risk

4) Just confirm re using the vacutainer holder won’t effect my tests  even if blood was anywhere on or in the vacutainer holder

And YOU UNDERSTOOD 100 percent that blood was in or on the vacutainer holder when nurse as drawing my blood

And it’s NO risk for hiv hepatitis c or stds or any blood infection and I don’t need any testing

I won’t get infected MOVE forward

1.  Correct
2. It is safe to have the vacutainer holder on the table.  It is normal for the nurse to wear gloves, including to assemble the vacutainer holder and needle.  No risk.
3 and 3b. Your test results are reliable and do not need to be repeated.  Believe your test results.
4. Correct.

You need to move forward.  EWH
