[Question #9843] Follow up to Question #9833 Herpes - HSV2

I had a follow up question for Terri Warren, RN. When I said I have never had any symptoms of ever having HSV2 I forgot to mention once on a plane trip to the UK from the US, I got a rash on both sides of my groin. It was red and irritated - no blisters, no pus, no crusting over. I had sex with my wife that night as it calmed down after I got off the flight, it went away over the next couple of days. I assumed at the time it was jock itch because that is what it looked like and it went away very fast and my wife never got any symptoms. It never came back. I had maybe 2-3 days at most, and it got better almost immediately after I got off plane. I know this is purely hypothetical but does this sound like a primary outbreak of herpes or just garden variety jock itch?

also I put some cortisone cream or something similar and it went away in 48 hours - this seems more like jock itch then an initial HSV infection correct? Thanks in advance, I won't ask any more questions about this and getting tested about this now seems pointless because I have never had any symptoms and neither had my wife, but I am just curious about what you think about this as my OCD is bad today........would like to stop worrying about this, but thought I would ask....thanks in advance.

That sounds exactly like a jock itch to me - no question. Herpes does not present bilaterally in that area as you described it. And that fits with long-time airline travel as well as a hot summer.
I think, if you can, it's time to take this worry off your plate.
