[Question #9851] Trich and BV questions
|
Hello, I am a male in my 30s from south Florida. Yesterday I engaged in protected oral and vaginal sex with a sex worker in her 50s. During vaginal intercourse I noticed a slight odor coming from her vagina. It was not very strong or foul but enough to notice. I didn’t notice any discharge during the visit.
Is it possible the odor could be a sign of BV or trich? Is it possible for a man to get trich or bv when using a condom? Is it safe to continue sex with my regular partner if we use condoms or is it advised to get tested for BV and trich first?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions as well as your commitment to safe, condom protected sex. It will do much to keep you safe.
Vaginal odors are notoriously non-specific and should not be used for assessment of STI risk. Certainly BV in particular is often described as being associated with abnormal vaginal odors and what you detected could represent BV or simply person-to-person variation is body odors. Irrespective of the cause of the odor, your condom use, as long as the condom was worn throughout the encounter, would prevent you from acquisition of trich or BV. I would not worry about continued sex with your regular partner.
I hope this information is helpful. EWH
