- I have HSV 1 genital only

- got in October 2019 and had a few outbreaks right away and then none for 3 years until I had one more recently 

- vaginal in location of outbreaks

I’m preparing to disclose to my partner and want some percentages to share with him. 

1. If he has HSV 1 orally already and we use condoms what is his risk %? 

2. If he does not have HSV 1 orally and we use condoms what is his risk %? 

3. How do these numbers change if I take Valtrax? 

Looking to prepare him with his risk if we choose to have intercourse.

 For some of this, we don't have a lot of data but I can share with you both what we do have in my opinion as well. If he has HSV one orally, he would be unlikely to acquire the same type genitally.  We don't know how much condoms reduce transmission of HSV one genital infection. Because this is shed so in frequently, we can't say how much benefit there is to things like condoms and antiviral medicine. What I would say about that is that neither of those interventions can be harmful so why not do them? We do know that people who've been infected for two years with genital HSV one, shed virus on average about four days out of the year. That's not very much. People who have oral HSV one should virus a lot more than this.

He thinks he may have HSV1 oral. Is there any way to calculate this risk for him to get it genitally? I know it’s a concern for him to not know what that risk is. Trying to figure out what to say to him. 

Also random but do outbreaks typically happen back to back?
