[Question #9902] Regarding Question #9899

Drs.
Sorry for asking so many questions. I am not clear when my burning started but definitely after 10 days.
Also I have read on a post from Doc HH from yesterday this
"Second, 11 days is too long for symptom onset for any STD that might infect the urethra. Third, absence of discharge is evidence against STD. (As it happens, my colleague Dr. Hook was the senior investigator on one of the main research studies that established that dysuria i.e. painful or burning urination, without discharge, is not an STD symptom, or a rare one at most.) Next, gonorrhea is by far the most likely STD that conceivably could do this; chlamydia is not a risk from oral sex; "

If this is so I should have no worries about an STI/STD from this encounter. ?

I'm sorry you found my original reply unclear.  i do not think that this is an STI.  I agree entirely with Dr. Handsfield's statement that symptoms beginning more than 10 days after an exposure are almost certainly never an STI (I hope you don't mind the minor qualification- in science and medicine one ca "never say never").  I would not be concerned that this is an STI.  EWH---

Thank you Doctor I am just really worried that I got something and gave it to my wife.

Also to clarify from Dr HH post If I have had no visible discharge ie stains in underwear, pus in penis This would not suggest an STI in anyway.  I know you cant say im 100% but I really need to be able to sleep at night

Guilt is a powerful force which can lead us in places we don't need to go.  We can never say never without a test but I would bet a very large sum of money that you did not get an STI from the encounters you describe and that you have not, and will not transmit anything to your wife.  If you want to 100% sure, get a urine test for gonorrhea and chlamydia but I am completely confident that the test will show that you are not infected.

Please don't worry. EWH

Thank you doctor. I know I have been doom scrolling which is never good.  One last thing my pee has been smelly the last couple days.  Would that change your mind at all

As you know, this is the 3rd and final response as part of this thread.  I urge you to:

1.  Accept that there is no reason to think you have an STI.
2.  Stay off the internet.
3.  Try to move forward.

Smelly urine is not a sign of any STI.  Time to move forward.  EWH
