[Question #9970] Can squarid acid (SADBE) cause warts to spread?

I've experienced spreading with imiquimod in the past and have heard many stories of others sharing a similar experience. I experienced a mild-severe reaction with SADBE and I'm wondering if it's possible that the new bumps I see are warts. My dermatologist said they're not warts but I'm wondering if it's even possible that they are warts. Not asking if they are warts because you obviously can't see them, but I'm wondering if it's possible they're warts.

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  Squarid acid (SADBE), like imiquimod is what is called a pro-inflammatory medication.  It works to stimulate the body to fight HPV/warts by causing inflammation at the site of application.  This inflammation can appear as local redness and inflammation, small blisters or bumps.  The intensity of the inflammation varies from person to person and it sounds as though you had a rather intense reaction.  I agree with your dermatologist and would not worry that the reaction you are experiencing is warts.  In fact, warts typically do not have much inflammation associated with them at all.  EWH ---

Is it arguably a good thing in the end that I had such a severe reaction because it might mean that my immune system is incredibly boosted which will help it fight the HPV? Not suggesting this was on purpose or that I will try and replicate it.

There are not good data to determine whether or not persons with more severe side effects have a better outcome with therapy,.  About 2/3 of persons treated with this medication respond to therapy.  EWH---
