[Question #9982] Nail salon

Hello,
I recently went to a nail salon and the drill they use to remove the dip nail Polish accidentally slipped and she nicked me. A very small amount of blood reached the surface, (not enough that it even blotted the clean napkin she used to put alcohol on it), but my question is if we assume the drill bit wasn’t cleaned and someone before me got nicked also, what are the chances of contracting HIV or another blood borne illness ? It was superficial and the cut closed up really quickly and didn’t even sting much, just a little worried

Looking at your two previous questions, it appears you tend to be over concerned about exposures well known to be zero risk for HIV. And that seems to be the case for this question as well. Nobody has ever been reported to acquire HIV from an injury during a cosmetic procedure. A nick like you describe is no risk for HIV, and would remain little or no risk even if a previous customer had HIV and even if the drill bit had not been cleaned. Such minor blood exposures have never been known to transmit HIV or other blood borne viruses.
So I really wouldn't worry at all about this, and it does not warrant HIV testing.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
