Background:
two sexual encounters on 5/4 and 5/5. On both occasions, unprotected oral sex and anal rimming (receiving/giving), unprotected genital rubbing, and protected sex (one encounter was primarily protected until the last 3-5 minutes where condom was off).

Symptoms
  • Pain when urinating (4-6/10)
  • One Pink eye (yellow discharge)
  • Two pea sized swollen lymph nodes on right groin side
  • Nausea/loss of appetite
  • No sores/lesions anywhere
  • General body ache/fatigue
  • Headache/vertigo

Question
I have always posited negative on past Igg test and this the first where I turned equivocal (1.04 for HSV2 and HSV1 negative).
Thoughts on test being a false positive? I am doing a confirmation ELISA test today

I should add that routine STD panel testing was done on 5/15 where everything but HSV2 came out normal.

Well, you result is equivocal, not positive, so let's start there.  I also believe that any testing done now is too early to be relied upon.  Without lesions that are visible, I think herpes is far less likely.  Herpes does not cause nausea or pink eye either.  I would suggest that if you want to, you can retest in about 6 weeks and see how it goes.  Beware that there are many false positives on this test, so if you test below five, consider a good confirmatory test.  If you develop any sores on your genitals before then, be sure to have them swabbed right away for greatest accuracy

Terri,
Will follow guidance on retesting 6 weeks.

As of today, no visible sores/lesions. Not sure if relevant but the two encounters were CSW and one minor symptom I had was tenderness in groin area above the penis (bruise like feeling) and random aches/itching inside the urethra and penis head.

I also received my urinalysis and it states the following:
  • a high level of WBC was >30 hpf
  • No bacteria
  • Mucus threads present
  • All other traits inline

With the urinalysis data and the additional info, do you still think herpes is far less likely?

I do think that herpes is very unlikely but you clearly have some sort of urethral or bladder infection going on.  Have you been treated?
